About Me

Who am I?

I am passionate about technology, communication and the world. I take satisfaction in translating technical concepts, shaping better business processes & empowering organizations.

I grew up in Kitchener-Waterloo, Canada with a unique upbringing. I learned about the importance of community action and education. I became very interested in software & technology and decided to aim to work in tech companies.

I have travelled all across the world diversifying my knowledge about the world’s history, politics and cultures (but most importantly food!). Travelling has developed me personally but it also helps me understand how audiences and users can differ across contexts. Everything I learn about the world and history has shaped me personally and also improves my work directly.

I’m a proud nerd! I love Film & TV, games and reading. I love and appreciate the art of storytelling throughout many forms of media. I read .I have learned that the stories I consumed support my ability to crafting compelling stories professionally.

I have always used the tagline “everything is fascinating” because I made it my life’s mission to be a ‘renaissance man’. I always want to know as much as I can about everything I can. To understand how the world works and have a positive impact on the people around me is at the core of my personal beliefs. I truly believe everything is fascinating and I love learning and challenging myself in new areas.

My Professional Experience

My experience combines: Community action + software/technology + design + technical communication + writing! All my experience gives me a unique position and perspective at the intersection of industries.

  • Program & Volunteer Coordinator

    The Fresh Food Program

I managed program operations and a team of volunteers to supply low income persons and community programs in Waterloo Region with fresh food weekly. I spent many years committed to the meaningful mission and learned about people leadership, project management and community action all within a fast paced not-for-profit environment.

  • Customer Service Representative

    D2L Corporation

This position allowed me to understand how to communicate with different users and meet them at their technical level with excellent technical steps and troubleshooting help. I provided process improvements and business analysis to improve end-user support and internal operations. I also helped create and manage new support flow scripts to significantly lower incoming case volume.

  • Student of IT Innovation & Design

    Conestoga College

I developed my skills in UI/UX, graphic design, content creation, marketing, business strategy, and full-stack development, with a focus on entrepreneurship and innovation. This education provided me with a basis of understanding for software and technical environments. Beyond course work and projects I focused on improving my leadership and mentorship skills through committees, conferences and forum administration.

  • Corporate Solutions Engineer

    D2L Corporation

My primary responsibility was to understand client business and technology needs and deliver customized presentations of D2L’s Brightspace product. I communicated technical concepts to clients with their unique needs and technical level in mind with an underlying sales goal. I acted as a product expert internally and externally and significantly improved the skill of presenting to audiences of different sizes. I was also hired to take ownership of process and project improvements for the organization which I thoroughly enjoyed.

  • Combat Engineer Trainee

    Canadian Armed Forces

While I was working and learning in the tech industry I was training as a Combat Engineer. I learned military and engineering concepts and even led and mentored troops. The military provided a unique work environment and allowed me to collaborate with skilled individuals in a fast paced environment. It taught me more about leadership and ways of learning outside of an office.

  • Product Specialist

    Andgo Systems

Similar to the Solutions Engineer position I communicated with clients directly to support them during their implementation process. I worked to understand client needs in order to configure client sites properly. I loved working with the team to help clients transform their shift filling methodology. I investigated product bugs and outlined product insights. I created and updated end-user documentation and further discovered my love for documentation and technical writing.

  • Student of Technical Communications

    Conestoga College

Realizing I’ve been a technical communicator and interested in documentation and technical writing across multiple positions I decided to upgrade my education. I learned about designing, creating and editing documents of many types using a purpose and audience-focused language and style methodology. I enjoyed improving my writing, design and project management skills.

  • Technical Writer Co-op

    LiftWerx

I dove into a new industry: Engineering. My first priority was implementing a Kanban board to tackle and prioritize documentation. I had the unique opportunity to get involved and hands on with the technicians and interviewed them for. Taking everything I learned I started editing high priority documentation and created a style guide for the organization. Using new technologies I started to significantly improve manuals and procedures in collaboration with subject matter experts (SMEs). I also worked on improving the overall training and onboarding process and did research for better documentation solutions.
